The new coatings can improve cutting performance by up to 50 GPa. In addition to providing improved cutting performance, nanocomposite coatings also extend tool life.

This coating is good for machining steels up to 54 HRC and prehardened materials. Duralor is working on different materials that can infiltrate CBN grains. It is also working on incorporating lubricants into the matrix. These coatings can dramatically increase tool life compared to traditional multilayer coated inserts.
