4 Flute Corner Radius End Mills

Four Flute Corner Radius End mills are single ended, four fluted, helix-cutting tools that create corner radii at the bottom of a milled shoulder. These mills have a facetted outside diameter and are used on manual milling machines and CNC machines. They have higher cutting forces and can be used at higher feed rates than square mills. These features provide greater tool life and increased productivity.


The number of flutes on an end mill is influenced by several factors, including the material that is being cut and the depth of cut. For example, a tool with a lower flute count will perform better on roughing applications than one with a higher flute count. In roughing applications, large flute valleys help evacuate large amounts of chips faster. Modern toolpaths can achieve extreme MRR with a smaller step over.


The higher the number of flutes, the more rigid the tool will be. While more flutes will increase the strength of the tool, they will also result in less chip packing. However, be careful when choosing the right tool for your application.


While two flute styles are traditionally used for steel and aluminum, three flutes are becoming more common because they take larger chips without reducing tool life. While three flute tools can handle softer materials better than steel, they are limited by their size and can only be fed at lower feed rates than 4 flute tools. They can also cut aluminum and non-ferrous alloys, but do not work as well on steel. A four flute end mill will provide a higher quality cut and will last longer than a 3 flute tool.


While higher flute counts provide greater cutting speeds, they also have smaller cutting edge valleys. This allows for better finishing and chip evacuation. It's a matter of finding a balance between speed and feed. With the right combination of flute counts, 4 Flute Corner Radius End mills can make your milling job a lot easier. The type of corner rounding end mill you choose will depend on your job. When working with hard materials, the largest pilot diameters will provide more strength and reduce power consumption. For blending purposes, however, a flared Corner Rounder will provide better accuracy and forgiveness and reduce set-up time. You can choose how many flutes you need depending on the material you're cutting. If you're working with soft materials, you may want fewer flutes, while a harder material requires more flutes.
